Why You Shouldn't

Shave After Waxing

Waxing can give you smooth skin for longer than shaving. Depending on the area you had waxed and your rate of hair growth, your results can last for several weeks. However, the hair will start to grow back eventually. Once it reaches a suitable length (a quarter of an inch or longer), it’s time to come back for your next appointment. Some women may be tempted to shave after waxing as soon as they notice any hair growth, but this is not a good idea. Once you start waxing, we recommend sticking to this as your only method of hair removal to keep your skin smooth, beautiful, and hairless.

Some reasons you shouldn’t shave after a wax:

Can Irritate Your Skin

Shaving can be irritating to your skin, especially if you do it too soon after waxing. Additionally, shaving can increase your chances of getting razor burn and ingrown hairs. Both can be painful and unsightly.

May Change Your Hair’s Texture

When you wax regularly, it slowly changes the texture of your hair. Repeated waxes thin the hair out and less hair will grow back. This makes it easier to remove over time, makes the hair less noticeable, and can lengthen the amount of time you can take between waxes. Shaving after waxing undoes some of this progress. This is because it cuts the hair at an angle above the surface of the skin. As a result, the jagged edge grows above the surface and feels more “stubbly” than hair that grows back after waxing.

Can Speed Up Hair Growth

Waxing removes hair at a specific stage during its growth cycle. There are three total stages for body hair: anagen (active growing), catagen (hair cut off from blood supply), and telogen (hair rests before falling out). During the telogen phase, new hair is beginning to grow under the surface. Waxing during the anagen phase is best because it removes hair before a new strand can start growing. As a result, you will not notice new hair at first. If you shave, you can disrupt the cycle of growth at the wrong time and encourage your hair to grow back more quickly.

Maintaining Your Wax

If you want to keep your skin smooth after waxing, shaving is not the way to go. There are many other steps you can take to maintain your results. Exfoliation is one of the best methods for this. You should wait 48 hours after your wax appointment to exfoliate and after this you should do so every two or three days. This removes dead skin cells and keeps your skin silky and beautiful while you wait for your next wax.
